The vision for Trauma Transformed began with acknowledging that trauma is pervasive and impacts the health and wellness of Bay Area children, youth and families who rely on our regional public health systems. In response, seven counties — Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz — envisioned breaking down silos, coordinating and communicating more effectively across sectors and county lines through a Bay Area Trauma Informed Systems of Care Initiative (BATISC).
The initiative focused on centralizing and building a regional trauma-informed Bay Area system of care and improving the ways we understand, respond to and heal trauma. The response to the initiative resulted in awarding EAST BAY AGENCY FOR CHILDREN the task of supporting the partnership of counties and communities in July 2015. This collaboration of partner agencies — Youth In Mind, Center for Youth Wellness, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and East Bay Agency for Children — along with the seven counties resulted in the creation of Trauma Transformed, a Bay Area Regional Trauma Center.
